  • OK wild edges...that sounds reassuring!  In that location are certainly plenty of squirrels around here!  I'll investigate around to see if they accept left whatever evidence!
  • Hmmm ... to me those await more than similar entrances to tunnels rather than holes left by squirrels retrieving their nuts.  Whatsoever voles in the area?

Now you've said it they do look quite deep. Can you poke a stick downwardly there and see how far they get?

My squirrel holes tend to expect similar this

Information technology means y'all accept voles. Lovely little animals. Apparently at that place are more than voles in the U.k. than humans. I've got loads in my garden and nosotros love watching them zipping about. They've been in and out of the stone walls collecting nesting material this calendar week.

I don't think they live underground, though.
  • Voles often consume delicious root systems and burrow under plants or ground cover and eat away until the establish is expressionless. Bulbs in the basis are another favorite target for voles; their first-class burrowing and tunnelling skills give them access to sensitive areas without clear or early warning. The presence of large numbers of voles is frequently only identifiable afterwards they have destroyed a number of plants. However, like other burrowing rodents, they too play beneficial roles, including dispersing nutrients throughout the upper soil layers.[ane]
